Last week, three of our female youth wrestlers competed in the Maryland Girls Folkstyle State Championship at McDonogh School.  It was the first time for our MSD female wrestlers from our youth wrestling program to compete and place in the tournament.

Over ninety wrestlers competed in the tournament and all three of our wrestlers placed.  Savannah Dahan (1st grade) and Eavan Shank (3rd grade) finished in 5th place.  Ava Williamson (4th grade) placed 3rd respectively.

The girls were not only successful in the girls’ state championship tournament, but they were also a part of a great movement.  USA Wrestling has declared February 10-19 as Women’s Wrestling Week and started the #girlswrestle initiative on social media to celebrate women’s wrestling.
